Step 1. For the pintucked pillow: from the solid fabric, cut a panel measuring 18” x 20”.

Step 2. Draw stitching lines on the right side of the fabric panel using the water soluble marker. The lines should follow the lengthwise grain (18”) and be marked parallel every ¾”.

Step 3. Prepare the serger for a 3-thread rolled edge. Use the same colored thread in the loopers and needle.

Step 4. Fold the fabric along the first line, right side of the fabric showing. Place the folded edge under the presser foot and stitch the entire length along the folded edge.

Step 5. Continue this process of folding a line and stitching until each line is stitched.

Step 6. Press the pin-tucks in one direction.

Step 7. From the pin-tucked panel cut four squares, each one measuring 7 ½” x 7 ½”.

Step 8. Lay two squares together so that the pin-tucks in one square lay perpendicular to the pin-tucks in the second square, right sides together.

1. At the sewing machine, stitch a ½” seam. Repeat this process for the remaining two squares.

Step 9. Next, stitch the four squares together to make the center panel for the pillow.

Step 10. From the printed decorator fabric, cut two 19” x 19” squares. Set one square aside to be used later for the back of the pillow.

Step 11. On the other square (the pillow front), draw a 12 ½” x 12 ½” square in the center of the fabric. Stay-stitch around the marked square.

Step 12. Cut the fabric away from inside the center of the square, leaving ½” of fabric on all sides for seams. Press the seams of the square under, to the wrong side, along the stitched line.

Step 13. Center the pin-tucked block under the opening of the pillow front. Pin the two layers together.

Step 14. Top-stitch around the opening of the square, securing the pin-tucked block to the pillow front.

Step 15. Lay the pillow front and the pillow back together, right sides facing.

Step 16. For the wave stitched pillow: From the solid fabric, cut one piece measuring 15” x 22”.

Step 17. Draw stitching lines on the right side of the fabric panel using the water soluble marker. The lines should follow the lengthwise grain (15”) and be marked parallel every ¾”.

Step 18. Prepare the serger for a 3-thread overlock – narrow width. Thread the same colored thread in the upper looper and the needle. Thread the lower looper with a contrast thread.

Step 19. Fold the fabric along the first line, right side of the fabric showing.

1. Place the folded edge under the presser foot, lining it up with the cutting blade’s edge and stitch the entire length of the edge fold.
2. Be careful not to nip the folded edge. First tucked row complete!

Step 20. Continue this process of folding a line and stitching until each tuck is stitched.

Step 21. To make the waves, draw lines every ½” perpendicular to the stitched tucks.

Step 22. Prepare the sewing machine for a straight stitch with thread that matches the fabric.

1. Begin stitching along these lines, first in one direction, making sure the tucks fold the same direction.
2. Now sew the next row, making sure the tucks fold the opposite direction. Continue this process until all of the rows are stitched.

Step 23. Cut the tucked fabric into a 12 ½” x 13 ½” block.

Step 24. From the printed fabric cut two pieces measuring 4” x 13 ½”. Stitch one piece to each end of the tucked fabric block, using ½” seams.

Step 25. Cut the pillow back from the printed fabric, 18.5” x 13 ½”.

Step 26. Lay the pillow front and back together, right sides facing. Pin the edges together. Stitch ½” seam around all sides, leaving an 8” opening on one short side to insert a pillow form.

Step 27. Turn pillow right sides out. Insert pillow form. Stitch the opening closed.
